Derby delight for Oldham
FORM-TEAM Oldham made it four successive victories with a 20-run derby triumph
against Royton at The Paddock.
But again it was a case of Royton shooting themselves in the foot after
establishing a winning position.
Royton’s Warren Teall and Matthew Ward shared an opening partnership of 72 as
they appeared to be cruising towards Oldham’s modest total of 165.
But once Teall was the first to go, run out for 28, it was the start of a
procession of wickets.
Royton’s 10 wickets fell for 73 runs as they were bowled out for 145.
A half century from overseas amateur Martin Smith and spirited 31 from captain
Stuart Moore helped Oldham reach 165.
Guy Lovell claimed three wickets and there were two apiece for Martin Bell, Paul
Hughes and Lee Gibbons.
Teall and the in-form Ward, who was caught behind by wicketkeeper Jason Maher
off Moore’s bowling for 47, gave Royton a perfect start to their reply.
Sadly the remainder of the batting was below par with Denny Hulme the only other
player to reach double figures. He scored 14.
