CROMPTON registered a convincing 91-run victory over Royton in the day’s
other derby clash at Glebe Street.
Taking first guard, Crompton posted a daunting 262 for six from their 50 overs.
The in-form Glen Rigby hit 70, while Sri Lankan Manjula Panawennage score 62 and
professional Saeed Anwar chipped in with 40.
Guy Lovell took five for 70 for Royton.
Royton’s big hope of getting anywhere near Crompton’s huge total lay with New
Zealand professional Neil Broom.
The Kiwi hit a fine 89, but his dismissal signalled the beginning of the end for
Royton, despite a fine 53 from Lee Gibbons, who was scoring his second
half-century in successive weekends.
