Sunday's trip to Royton, in common with all but one
other League fixture, was rain affected and ended up
as a no result.
Royton won the toss and invited Heywood to bat
first. Cross and Mike Arnold dodged the showers to
make steady progress. Arnold continued his form from
the previous week as the opening partnership reached
57, before Bobby Cross was caught off the bowling of
Shaun Marais.
Anwar joined the attack, strangling scoring
opportunities by darting in his left arm spin from
over the wicket. Sadly, after the previous day's
excitement, Campbell got a leading edge and was out
for eight. Blight settled in with Arnold, but the
return of Proctor induced Arnold to give a return
catch four short of his half-century, with the score
on 104.
There was concern that Anwar, after his hundred the
previous day, might be able to lead a successful
attack on anything under 150, even if there were
only 20 overs available. Jonny Shaw joined Blight
and in a sensible batting display, defending against
Anwar and attacking the other end, the pair put on
an unbeaten partnership of 70. Blight was unbeaten
on 39, and Shaw on 33.
With that, the rain set in, the cloud descended and,
despite the valiant attempts of groundstaff, players
and umpires, play was abandoned without Royton
beginning their reply.
