Royton burst into form with a sensational victory at Milnrow – a match which
featured no less than four centuries.
Luke Procter (17) scored his maiden ton and professional Saeed Anwar
followed suit as Royton passed Milnrow’s huge 303 for three declared for the
loss of only one wicket.
Procter’s unbeaten 102 came from 130 balls, while Anwar faced 105 deliveries
for his undefeated 121 as Royton raced to 305 for one from only 43 overs.
Earlier, Milnrow had swept past 300 thanks to 121 from professional Craig
Philipson and an unbeaten 110 from Sean Powell.

Bowler’s nightmare
LADYHOUSE on Saturday wasn't a place for the faint-hearted, particularly if
you were a bowler, as Milnrow entertained Royton.
With the sun cracking the flags and the wicket full of runs the spectators
were treated to a festival of strokeplay which saw four centuries and more
than 600 runs scored for the loss of only four wickets.
Milnrow must still be shell-shocked.
Having set the visitors a target of 304 to win, thanks mainly to a stand of
244 between their Australians Craig Philipson and Sean Powell, they were
truly stunned as this was passed with ease.
Royton had only one wicket down and seven overs to spare when they reached
Milnrow's total.
Milnrow won the toss and it was no surprise when they took first knock.
Mark Wakefield and Pawson got the innings off to a brisk start and put on 53
before Wakefield was snapped up by Paul Hughes for 24. Pawson followed six
runs later, and this brought overseas amateur Powell to the crease to
join professional and fellow Queenslander Philipson.
Philipson perished in the final over for 121 scored off 97 balls. He hit 10
fours and
three sixes. His dismissal prompted a declaration by Milnrow and Powell was
left to carry his bat on 110. His fine effort took 110 balls, with 10 fours and a
six.
As they left the field they and their team-mates must have been confident of
victory.
But Royton had other ideas and Denny Hulme and Luke Proctor showed their
intentions from the start. Lee Storey was hit out of the attack. He conceded 24
in three overs as the opening pair pushed past the 50 mark.
With the score on 84 Hulme holed out to Lee Storey off the bowling of John
Storey. This only brought the dangerous Saeed Anwar to the crease. He, no
doubt, had been chomping at the bit, having watched the bowlers toiling to
extract life from the wicket.
Anwar and Proctor didn't hang about as they compiled a record second wicket
partnership for Royton of 221.
Proctor scored his maiden CLL century as he reached 102 not out from 130
balls. He hit seven fours and a six.
Anwar confirmed his reputation as one of the best batsmen in the leaguewith a
majestic 121 not out. It included 16 fours and two sixes.
