Royton’s disappointing run continued when they lost a high-scoring thriller at home to Milnrow.
South African Shaun Powell hit 98 as Milnrow scored 239 after taking first guard.
Home professional Saeed Anwar and Andy Westphal took three wickets apiece.
Royton came agonisingly close to clinching a place in round two, but were bowled out three runs short of Milnrow’s total.
Luke Procter hit 75 and Denny Hulme 52 as the Paddock outfit scored 236.
